Twenty-Five Aprils
Where shall I begin, sweet daughter of spring
If only I could tell you everything
Wanting to take on the world but never believing you could
I know you’re uncertain but oh, if you knew
What these twenty-five Aprils could have in store for you
You can do more than you ever believed to be true
If others can make it, then why in the world wouldn’t you?
So work hard, be determined and do what you can to prepare
You’ll suddenly wake up and find yourself already there
Seasons change, as will you
But no matter how often they do
The fragile softness of spring will always feel new
Question the boundaries so often presented as rules
Find parts of yourself in words once so foreign to you
Most walls you’ve been told that exist just turn out to be doors
Find people on different trails who can help you blaze yours
Know your position but let other voices be heard
But be brave and remember that change doesn’t come through just words
Seasons change, as will you
But no matter how often they do
The fragile softness of spring will always feel new
Find something or someone worth loving and love them intensely
Enjoy things that make you feel happy and be unashamed
Embrace all the depth of your caring with every heartbeat
But if someone takes more than you give, let yourself walk away
Feel all your feelings but never mistake them for truth
You don’t have to have all of your life figured out in your youth
Seasons change, as will you
But no matter how often they do
The fragile softness of spring will always come through
And every April you’ll feel just a little more you
It’s never too late to start over
Redefine, redesign
So go on, my sweet daughter of spring
You’ll be more than just fine
